Participating in the High-level Ministerial Meeting at MEFED in Jordan
On 10thJune 2022, Eng. Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, participated in the high - level Ministerial panel discussion at the conclusion of the second day of MENA Europe Future Energy Dialogue (MEFED) 2022, hosted by Jordan in the Dead Sea region, under the patronage of the Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah. The high-level regional event, witnessed the participation of 700 Regional and European officials, with a joint invitation from Jordan and Germany, aims at opening new horizons for cooperation in energy domain among the Middle East, North Africa and Europe, as well as establishing more initiatives in the renewable energy and infrastructure domains for green hydrogen production.
The Ministerial meeting discussed the global challenges that currently confronting the governments, including recovery after COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine crisis and confronting climate changes. Moreover, they reviewed the methods of countries' clean energy transition with ensuring energy security. That was with the high-level participation of Eng. Suhail Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy & Infrastructure, Mr. Jozef Síkela, Czech Minister of Industry & Trade, the Representative of the Presidency of the EU Council, and Ms. Rola Dashti Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCWA.
El Molla Meeting with the Ministers of Germany, Belgium and Bulgaria
On the sidelines of the conference, Eng. Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held a series of bilateral meetings with a number of European Ministers. The Minister met with Dr. Robert Habeck, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action in Germany. They discussed the updates of the global energy markets and their impacts on climate and energy, in addition to Egypt's preparations for COP27 Summit that will be held next November, organized by Egypt, on behalf of the African continent. They also discussed benefiting from the major German expertise in energy transition and emissions reduction domains, for bolstering Egypt's efforts in this domain.
El Molla also held several bilateral meetings with Ms. Tinne Van der Straeten, Belgian Federal Minister of Energy, Mr. Alexander Nikolov, Bulgarian Minister of Energy and Mr. Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). They discussed means of cooperation in various energy domains, working on emissions reduction, and benefiting from European expertise and solutions in this domain, as well as developing hydrogen and infrastructure activities, in cooperation with the Belgian side, in addition to cooperation opportunities with Belgium in energy and infrastructure domains. They reviewed all Egypt's efforts and plans for energy transition and developing its energy resources.
Signing an MoU with Jordan
On the sidelines of the MEFED in Jordan, Eng. Tarek E Molla signed with his Jordanian counterpart, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, an MoU for bolstering and enhancing cooperation between both countries in training and exchanging expertise domains in the activities of mineral resources, petrochemical industries, oil and gas.
The MoU comes due to both countries' awareness of the significance of the bilateral cooperation for achieving mutual interests by bolstering the scientific and technical potentials of both parties, contributing to the optimal exploitation of their natural resources, encouraging investment and developing the economy.
The MoU included many cooperation domains, on the top of which are reviewing the expertise of both countries, transferring & exchanging expertise and technology, as well as training domain, and the exchange of experiences in the field of laboratory analysis of mineral ores, especially in gold projects.
They also agreed on sending experts to Jordon for training technical cadres in mineral resources, petrochemicals, oil and gas domain, as well as organizing specialized training programs in the training centers available in both countries, in addition to exploiting all capacities and the Egyptian companies' expertise for expanding the oil and gas activities domains in Jordan.
For his part, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh asserted on the significance of the MoU in benefiting from the long expertise of the Egyptian companies in oil, gas and petrochemicals domains, pointing out his country's readiness to provide and transfer its expertise in renewable energy domain, relying on Jordan's pioneering experience.
