On 20th October 2024, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, inaugurated MOC 2024, convened in Alexandria, in the presence of George Papanastasiou, Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry of Cyprus, and a number of leaders, energy and petroleum organizations' officials at the Mediterranean basin, Petroleum Sector leaders, International and Egyptian Petroleum Companies' CEOs, Cabinet Members in Alexandria Governorate.

The Minister mentioned that the Conference is considered a platform for exchanging expertise, unlocking potentials, accelerating exploration and achieving sustainability for the current and coming generations. Badawi is committed to bolster collaboration with our partners.

He clarified that the whole chain of decarbonization activities is the center of interest locally and globally, in light of its economic and environment importance for industry. Egypt targets a diversified and sustainable energy mix for achieving Egypt's Vision 2030.

The Cypriot Minister declared that Cyprus is allocating a significant part of its resources to accelerate its gas fields development, connecting them to gas infrastructure in Egypt (Idku and Damietta LNG facilities to liquefy and export gas), praising Egypt's role as a significant partner and neighbor, that supports Cyprus efforts to exploit its resources for achieving mutual benefits.
